It would be fair to say that hockey is about three things – controlling the ball, scoring (yourself and stopping the opposition) and fitness. Of the three the latter can be improved quickly and as we close the year pre-season for 2008 / 09 your fitness improvement should begin.

Remember that a hockey player’s fitness is all about having the capability to repeat multi-directional explosive movement (e.g lead and re-lead to create space), which is a combination of endurance and speed.

Two profiles have been produced which will help you during the Summer -

These schedules provide the platform (aerobic / endurance) upon which the speed and agility can be developed.

Please don’t return in July having done nothing……….you will feel it if you have !!!!

Enjoy running in the fields and not being sick at Lockwood Park.
